The state government is being pressured to provide certainty to Tasmanian businesses that applied for tourism and hospitality-related grants earlier in the year, which are designed to make up for the delay of the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels .
In response to a call for assurance over the program's delivery, Tourism Minister Jane Howlett has said that the Spirit Preparedness Fund was running in accordance with the guidelines set out by the Department of State Growth when it opened on March 28.
Grants of between $50,000 and $250,000 are available for businesses to create new products or attractions, or enhance existing ones, as part of the fund.
Grants of between $100,000 and $500,000 are available for councils to invest in infrastructure to support increased visitor numbers.
