LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - SOWELA Technical Community College is experiencing record-breaking enrollment growth.

“We are 20% over the enrollment number that we were fall semester of 2024, which means if we combine our credit and non-credit for the first time in our 87-year history, we’re over 4,500 students,” said School Chancellor Dr. Aspinwall.

Aspinwall says he credits the growth to the ways the college supports students through their education.

“The easy part is getting the students here, but the hard part is retaining the students, so we offer wraparound student support services,” said Dr. Aspinwall.

In recent years, SOWELA has introduced apprenticeship programs that help students get a paying job in their field while attending classes.
