MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A project nearly two years in the making is officially complete in Mobile.
The Dog River Derelict Vessel Removal Project, made possible through grant funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, sought to clean abandoned vessels from Dog River.
Since June 2023, more than 13 derelict vessels have been removed primarily from Dog River. The project began with identifying vessels and debris from Hurricane Sally that posed a safety threat to other operating vessels.
The City of Mobile plans to seek more funding to continue the project in other parts of Mobile.
