ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Dozens of parents spent Monday night urging Atlanta Public Schools officials to reconsider a consolidation plan that could close two schools in northwest Atlanta.

Under the consolidation proposal, Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy and B.E.S.T. Academy at The Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Institute, an all-boys school, could be either consolidated with other schools or shut down due to what the district says is declining enrollment that no longer justifies the cost of operation.

Several other schools in the district are facing similar fates and being considered for closure or consolidation.

For parents and community members who packed the meeting space Monday night, closing the schools is not the solution.
