LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Lordstown Village Council decided at its Monday meeting not to approve a ban on an AI data center and instead sent the proposed ordinance through a first reading.
A lot of people at the council meeting, who live in Lordstown, supported the ban because of the environmental issues data centers bring with them.
Mark McGrail was one Lordstown resident in attendance who supported the proposed ordinance.
"The problem with these things is they take up a lot of resources with little return. There's few jobs," McGrail said.
Mike McGiffin of the Lake to River Economic Development Group said putting a blanket ban on any new business "will not do this region any favors for any new business attraction that we're looking to bring in."
