Banks in many parts of India are closed today, October 7, to observe Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and Kumar Purnima. These festivals are important cultural and religious events celebrated in different states. Valmiki Jayanti marks the birth of sage Valmiki, the writer of the Ramayana, while Kumar Purnima is celebrated mainly in Odisha to honour Lord Kartikeya.
As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks follow a fixed schedule for holidays. Apart from national and regional holidays, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday. The first, third and fifth Saturdays are working days unless they fall on a declared holiday in the RBI calendar.
