CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala. —

The state "knocked out" what it calls an illegal combat sports ring in Cherokee County.

The Alabama Athletics Commission said promoters of The Pit didn’t have the licenses needed to run the ring it hosted on County Road 941 near Weiss Lake.

Chaz Thomas told WVTM 13 he’s friends with one of the men who runs The Pit and said it was just something fun they do in their small northwestern Georgia community. He said he and others involved with The Pit weren’t trying to cause problems or be a headache.

That’s exactly what the commission said they were doing before getting “knocked out.”
