A man who was struck and killed while walking in Bessemer has been identified.

Gary Andrew Harris Jr., 48, was walking in the road in the 2300 block of 19th Street North Sunday night when he was struck by a vehicle.

It happened just before 11 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene a few minutes later, according to the coroner's office.

The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the death.
