The government shutdown is hitting U.S. national parks hard. From ever-changing conditions about which parks are even open to concerns from park rangers about "helpful" visitors actually hurting the parks in the long run , everyone is on edge until funding is restored.

Now, one national park has another problem to contend with: thievery . Redwood National and State Parks has been dealing with a theft problem for at least a month, and with the government shutdown entering its second week, staff policing is sparser than ever.

The government shutdown means Redwood National Park is operating without federal funding, and without the federal staff it usually has. However, because the park also incorporates multiple state parks and through highways, it is fully open throughout the funding
