Syracuse, N.Y. — Shawn Fiato didn’t think she was going to get the job.

Fiato had come down with pneumonia in January 2025. The sickness kept her from hosting her annual Christmas celebration in Leavenworth Park, a tradition of hers as president of the Park Ave. Neighborhood Association.
