MEDINA, Ohio – With Mayor Dennis Hanwell retiring at the end of the year, two members of council have thrown their hat in the ring for the race for Medina mayor.
Council President John Coyne and Councilor Jim Shields have both filed to run for the position. Coyne has been a member of council since 1998, and Shields has served as the Ward 4 councilor since 2001.
When asked about Medina’s greatest strengths, Coyne mentioned the historic Medina square.
