WELLSTON, MI – A Michigan woman drowned on Monday, Oct. 6, while she was fishing on the Manistee River near Wellston, WBPN/WGTU reports .

Merrilynn Roycraft, 66, of Cadillac, was found in the water around 6:50 p.m. and was later pronounced deceased, the report said. The search included boats and drones; civilians assisted emergency responders.

Roycraft had been fishing at the High Bridge Manistee River Access when a witness noticed that she was working to untangle fishing line, the report said. He looked away briefly and when he looked back, she was gone.

The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area around 6:19 p.m., the report said. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Coast Guard, local fire departments and other agencies assisted at the scene. The incid
