Whitmer signs $81B Michigan budget with funding increases for roads, schools

Michigan has a new $81 billion budget funding schools, state departments, local governments and roads .

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed budget bills for 2025-2026 into law on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The bills will replace the temporary continuation budget that lawmakers approved to avoid a government shutdown .
