BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about one of the most common forms of cancer affecting women today.

"Having breast self-awareness is really key and knowing what your normal is so that you know when something is abnormal," said Woman's Hospital's Dr. Lindsey Richard Fauveau.

In honor of this critical campaign, local physicians Fauveau and Dr. Jamie Botelho Patterson are speaking out to educate the community on the importance of early detection, understanding risk factors, and knowing the available screening options.

"Early detection saves lives," Fauveau said. "When breast cancer is found at an early stage, treatment is more likely to be successful, and the chances of survival increase significantly."
