Ensemble Montréal mayoral candidate Soraya Martinez Ferrada wouldn’t say Tuesday why she kicked a candidate out of her party hours after defending his place in the campaign despite a series of vulgar social media posts targeting elected officials.

Martinez Ferrada said she dropped Alexandre Giasson as a candidate after receiving new information from a “source,” refusing to offer any information about the identity of her source or the nature of the allegations.

“It’s not up to me to divulge this information,” she told reporters Tuesday. “What I can tell you is that this is a credible source and this credible source, for me, was enough for me to say he has to go.”
