As a medal-winning Paralympian, Nathalie Chartrand has travelled around the world and says Quebec is one of the places where she feels the least safe crossing the street.
“I don’t even ever try to cross at a crosswalk unless I have someone to help me,” Chartrand said Tuesday as she took part in the annual awareness campaign by Piétons Québec to promote safety on the roads. “I know in other provinces you just have to put your foot on the road and people stop. Here in Quebec I have to have a visual contact with drivers, but because (I’m visually impaired), that’s not an option for me.”
