MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 15-year-old girl in Muskegon Heights was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning, police say.

The shooting happened in the East Park Manor Housing Community on Howell Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday. The teen’s mother called 911 and said that her daughter had been shot in the leg, the Muskegon Heights Police Department said in a statement posted to social media.

The girl was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound above the knee and later released.
