A Bloomington resident released from prison two months ago is in jail, charged with murder and gun-related charges related to the Sept. 26 shooting death of a transient man.

Stephen P. Dixon II, 26, whose address is the 500 block of South Basswood Drive, was arrested Oct. 6 on preliminary charges of murder, criminal recklessness and two counts of unlawfully carrying a handgun with a prior conviction.

Dixon was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 1 p.m. and is being held without bond. Formal charges had not been filed in court by the afternoon of Oct. 7.

He is accused of firing the bullet that killed 29-year-old Shawn Allen Sullivan during a 9:40 p.m. altercation the last Friday in September. It happened at the corner of Howe and Morton streets just south of downtown Bloomington.
