WASHINGTON, DC ( 25News Now ) - Peoria area manufacturers Caterpillar and Komatsu are losing millions of dollars in business because the federal government is cutting clean energy programs, primarily in blue states run by Democrats, according to Democrats in Congress.

Big Yellow misses out on almost $3.3 million in funding, and Komatsu loses $2.5 million, for a total of about $5.8 million, said U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) who represents Illinois’ 17th Congressional District.

Sorensen said the feds are canceling more than $8 billion in clean energy projects nationwide, with $54 million in his district alone despite Congress previously approving and funding the projects.

He calls the Trump administration’s actions a “political stunt.”
