A discount supermarket giant is set to open a new store in a Birmingham suburb as another shop seeks permission to subdivide its unit and downsize.

Lidl is continuing to expand its empire in the north of the city as it plans to take over around a quarter of the Wickes DIY store at the Tameside Business Park in Aldridge Rad, Perry Barr .

Wickes has said it has two years remaining on the lease of the site which it rents off Somerset Council.

Wickes said it needed to ‘reduce their footprint if they are to continue trading from the site long-term’.
