Portland officials Tuesday said the city is making it easier and cheaper for food carts, craft booths and other mobile vendors to operate at dozens of local parks.

The move is intended to “support small businesses while energizing public spaces,” officials said in a news release.

“It’s about creating opportunities on parks property, bringing vibrancy to Portland’s public green spaces and supporting local enterprise year-round in a way that benefits everyone,” said Priya Dhanapal, deputy city administrator for public works.

Under a new online permitting system, qualified vendors will be able to set up shop at designated parking areas for as little as $5 a day. Those spaces will be available daily on a first-come, first-served basis at 39 parks and natural areas (see full list below).
