The West Porter Fire Protection District (WPFPD), one of three entities that fund the Lake of the Four Seasons Volunteer Fire Force, is facing a significant funding shortfall heading into 2026.

Created by the Porter County Board of Commissioners and governed by a five-member appointed board, the district is tasked with providing fire protection services to the Porter County side of the unincorporated Lakes of the Four Seasons community and nearby areas of Porter Township. On the other side of the Lake County line, the Town of Winfield and Winfield township also contract with the fire force, which is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
