Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold received a favorable second opinion on his ailing shoulder and will not require surgery, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Arnold now is expected to return at some point this season, with ESPN going so far as to say that he could be back "sooner than expected" -- quite possibly later this month.

That's a lot better than the initial diagnosis for Arnold, who was expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Arnold, 22, sustained the injury in Detroit's 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 4 and aggravated it during Sunday's 37-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
