BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Though Tuesday’s high temperatures tell a different story, we know winter weather is right around the corner.

While the rest of us soak up the last bit of summer-like conditions, staff at Bangor Public Works have been in winter-readiness mode for months now.

“I’ve got all the sand-salt mix ready to go. I have all my liquid ready to go,” said Steve Smith, interim director, Bangor Public Works.

Smith says for the first time in years, they anticipate being at full staff when the season starts.

Last year they were short eight plow drivers.

“We have picked up a lot of people with our CDL class that we put on through here, where we actually hire employees and put them through and get that Class B license,” Smith explained.
