ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) - Tuesday, Ellsworth Renewables unveiled its new 5.9 megawatt solar farm that is said to offset the power from nearly a thousand homes.

It involves 10,000 panels and sheep to help get the job done.

Company officials say the project, located just north of Lower Patten Pond, features American-made solar modules attached to a modern and efficient tracking infrastructure.

They say sheep will be used for grazing to simplify land management, acting as natural lawnmowers and weed controllers by eating the grass on site.

Nexamp owns Ellsworth Renewables.

They say they are estimating this will offset the power needs of nearly 1,000 average households in the Versant utility grid.
