NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — With less than a month until November’s gubernatorial election, Virginia state lawmakers are on the campaign trail, hoping to appeal to new and younger voters.
At Christopher Newport University, candidates appeared beside a dozen political and advocacy organizations in an election information event on CNU's mall.
By noon, roughly a dozen people had filled out new voter registration information, according to elections officials present at the event.
"I always thought it was important for students to be engaged in an election, anybody, quite frankly, but because you’re part of a university that receives state funding, you have to be engaged," sophomore Cailyn Pfost said.
The event, with 28 days to go until Virginia's statewide races, comes one day after the university
