NEW ORLEANS, LA – OCTOBER 7 – This Fire Prevention Week (October 5–11), there’s a sobering message from the American Red Cross of Louisiana: home fire deaths are on the rise across our state. This year, we’ve tragically lost more lives to home fires than in all of 2024. This isn't just a statistic; it's a stark reminder that preparing for a home fire could save your family's lives.

"Home fires can occur at a moment’s notice," explains Dr. Kenneth St. Charles, CEO of the American Red Cross of Louisiana. "The sooner an alarm alerts you, the sooner you can get out. With this tragic rise in deaths, we’re asking every household to take these simple, yet critical, steps: test your smoke alarms, practice your escape plan, and ensure you’re heating your home safely as colder weather approaches."
