LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lunch Winfield led the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a dramatic double overtime victory against Marshall, totaling 254 all-purpose yards and scoring five touchdowns.
Winfield's first name is D'Wanye’, but prefers to go by the nickname, 'Lunch'. It originated from an incident with his grandfather when he was just a few months old. His grandfather turned away while preparing to eat a chicken wing, and Winfield ate the whole thing, earning him the nickname that stuck throughout his life.
"He was the face of the program, and we made that decision when he was a sophomore," said Dwain Jenkins, head coach of Lutcher High School.
Winfield's football journey began at Lutcher, where he first made his mark. He started seeing playing time as a freshman looking to revitalize th
