DENVER (KDVR) — A former women's college golf coach has been convicted of unlawful sexual contact with a student during a private lesson.
A jury in Weld County on Sept. 26 convicted Benjamin Portie of inappropriately touching a female University of Colorado student golfer during a private lesson in November 2023, according to a press release from the 19th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
At the time, Portie was a part-time assistant men's golf coach at the Colorado School of Mines. He was in that role from August 2022 to May 2024, the university confirmed to FOX31.
Portie was the head women's golf coach at the University of Northern Colorado from 2017 to 2021 and was not employed by UNC at the time of the incident, according to the district attorney's office.
