A top police officer has told a court that a planned pro-Palestine march on Sunday that is expected to result in tens of thousands of people descending on the Opera House forecourt has “disaster written all over it”, as police seek an order blocking the rally.

The NSW Court of Appeal, the state’s top court, is holding an urgent hearing in a test case on protest rights as police seek to halt the march from the Sydney CBD to the Opera House. Chief Justice Andrew Bell and Justices Ian Harrison and Stephen Free are presiding over the hearing.
