A plan to restore rail on Vancouver Island is gaining steam with a new approved motion by Nanaimo City Council.

Nanaimo City Council has unanimously voted to support a plan for transit to connect with the potential return of rail.

“Nanaimo is always described as being long and skinny, and that’s really how it’s laid out. We have this long spine running all the way from north to south in Nanaimo, and so that’s just really a great opportunity for the future when we can take advantage of having rail transportation again,” said Hilary Eastmure, a Nanaimo city councillor.
