David Zagaroli and Arnita M. Dula will face each other in the general election for the Ward 5 seat on the Hickory City Council.
Dula and Zagaroli, the incumbent city councilman, were the top two vote-getters out of five candidates. Dula got 256 votes and Zagaroli got 177. A total of 597 votes were cast, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections election results.
The other candidates were Taylor Newton Lelewski, who got 143 votes, Kevin Gaylord, with 14 votes, and Joshua Ledford, who got 6 votes.
The next city council member for Ward 5 will be decided in the coming general election. Election Day is Nov. 4.
Voters in Hickory will elect candidates for four positions in total this fall.
