Portland Middle and High schools will be closed on Wednesday after a sewage backup caused issues on Tuesday.
The school district said a significant sewage backup occurred on the first floor of the high school, and the odor affected the entire complex.

Officials said that due to the unsanitary conditions, Portland High School was dismissed early, the Board of Education meeting and all after-school activities were canceled on Tuesday.
"Our facilities team is working closely with the sewer department and outside contractors to address the issue and thoroughly sanitize the building," the school said in a statement.
