TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Members of the community came together for a bike ride in memory of Enrique Mercado, who died last month after he was stabbed while riding on the Loop near First and Wetmore in Tucson.
It’s one of multiple violent crimes along the bicycle path in recent years.
The Tuesday Night Ride group not only wanted to honor Mercado’s life, but also to make sure their voices are being heard by the city. They said what happened to Mercado, known as Kix to many, should never happen again.
The killing is just one of five homicides that have happened along The Loop in the past three years. That is why multiple law enforcement agencies were out on the bike path on Tuesday to ensure the area was safe.
Mark Liles, a friend of Mercado, said the city’s efforts are a massive step i
