TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The local biking group, Tuesday Night Ride, honored the memory of Enrique "Kix" Mercado Tuesday night as they pedaled around Tucson. Mercado, a 44-year-old cyclist, was killed last month after being stabbed on the Diamond Street Loop bike path.
Last week, Tucson police charged 26-year-old Michael Francisco with second-degree murder in connection to Mercado's death. However, his friends and family continue to feel the void left by his absence.
The event, dedicated to Mercado, started at Arizona Bicycle Service on the south side, a place Mercado frequently visited before each week's ride.
"It was something that he was always trying to do – was meet at the bike shop and then go do the bike ride. So every Tuesday he was here just like 'Come on let's go!'" Mario Liza
