A massive sinkhole opened early Tuesday on Venice Boulevard after a water main burst near the Venice Canals, flooding the street and cutting service to several dozen customers.

Firefighters responded around 3:20 a.m. to reports of flooding on the 200 block of North Venice Boulevard, just east of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) said a 16-inch main had ruptured, affecting 34 customers. Crews worked throughout the morning to make repairs.
