An 84-year-old climber has died after falling 25 feet despite medics reaching him while he was still alive. A team from the Baraboo Area Fire and E.M.S. District responded to a call in Devil’s Lake State Park, Wisconsin, at 11:30 a.m., officials said. The man had been out with a group of climbers over the weekend. His identity has not been made public, The New York Times reports. Responders reached the man using a technique called a high-angle rope rescue, which lowers them down steep rock faces into hard-to-reach areas. Baraboo Area Fire assistant chief Mark Willer said, “Our medics made access to him, but before we could get anything set up, he went pulseless.” It is the fifth time this year the department has been called out to climbers in the 10,000-acre state park.
