TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a passenger has died from injuries sustained in a crash that happened late last month on Interstate 77 in Tuscarawas County.

According to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 81-year-old Naoma McKinney of North Ridgeville was pronounced dead on Oct. 7 at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. The Stark County Coroner’s Office reported her death was due to injuries from the Sept. 26 crash.

Troopers say the crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on I-77 southbound near milepost 71 in Jefferson Township. A 2014 Kia Sorento driven by a man from North Ridgeville traveled off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, overturned and then hit a guardrail.

Both occupants were taken by Smith Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.
