BOSTON (WPRI) — More than a dozen people were taken into custody and several officers were hurt after clashes broke out during a pro-Palestine protest in Boston.

Boston police said Tuesday night's rally on the Boston Common quickly turned chaotic.

The demonstration called "Two Years of Genocide" was organized by several student groups from colleges around the area.

Around 6:45 p.m., protestors marched from the Embrace Memorial through Tremont Street, blocking traffic and setting off red smoke flares. As officers tried to hold the crowd back with bikes, a clash ensued.

Thirteen people were placed under arrest and four officers were hurt, according to police, two of whom were taken to the hospital with broken bones.
