MANDEVILLE, La. (WVUE) - Kathy Seiden, a councilwoman for District 4 in St. Tammany Parish, has launched a campaign vying for the Louisiana Republican Primary for the United States Senate.

Seiden is the first woman and one of nine Republicans who have filed paperwork to run in the party’s primary, including incumbent Bill Cassidy, who has served in the Senate since 2015.

So far, no democrats have filed paperwork to enter the race for their party’s primary.

According to a video released by the campaign on launch day, Seiden hired a Trump pollster to test the waters for a potential Senate run ahead of her decision.

Seiden’s campaign has branded her as an “outsider” running on a platform of faith, family, and “America First” principles.
