First-term St. Tammany Parish Council member Kathy Seiden announced Wednesday she is running for U.S. Senate , joining a field of several Republican candidates who hope to knock incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy out of the race in a closed party primary set for April.
“I’m running because Washington has lost touch with the real challenges families face every single day,” Seiden said in a statement announcing her candidacy.
“As a mother of four, I've lived those struggles. We need a fighter who stands unapologetically or faith, family, and the American way of life."
Seiden grew up in Brusly and is a graduate of LSU, according to a news release.
