Syracuse, N.Y. - A Syracuse apartment building was damaged early Wednesday morning by a fire caused by unattended cooking.
When firefighters arrived at 427 Tully St. shortly after midnight, flames could be seen in a seventh-floor window of the James Geddes Housing, Syracuse Fire Department Lt. Erik Caster said in a news release.
Firefighters found smoke on the seventh floor before they entered the apartment where there was a fire in the kitchen.
The fire was put out in about 20 minutes.
After searching the rest of the apartments, crews worked to remove smoke from the building and protect other apartments from water damage.
The kitchen was damaged by the fire while other parts of the building experienced minor smoke and water damage, Caster said.
