The Town Council meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 1 was relatively short and sweet, but one interesting issue was raised that will likely add another layer to the recently rolled out homestead tax rate.

Steven and Michelle Mascena of 381 High Street are longtime residents and owners of Bristol Picture Frame, which is at 379 High Street, though the two buildings share a single lot. With the commercial building on their lot, they were denied the homestead rate.

They appeared before the Council and told them that they went to see the tax assessor, looking for answers. They don’t know how it started or how far back it goes, but the town sends all town and tax-related communication to the commercial address, which is what led to the denial.
