DETROIT —For the second time this MLB postseason, the Detroit Tigers find themselves on the brink of elimination.
They’re in 2-1 series hole after an 8-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night in Detroit.
A win by the Mariners in Wednesday’s Game 4 sends them to the ALCS, a win by the Tigers sends the series back to Seattle for a winner-take-all Game 5 Friday night.
The Tigers were once again plagued by a sluggish offense and inability to bring baserunners home in Game 3, with Seattle jumping out to an early lead with runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Detroit plated three runs in the bottom of the 9th, but the game was well out of reach for the Tigers bats at that point.
The Tigers will pin their playoff survival on right-hander Casey Mize.
Seattle goes with Bryce Miller.
