VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach grand jury indicted two police officers on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses, following an internal investigation prompted by an anonymous tip.

Sgt. Rebecca Peyer, an 18-year veteran of the Virginia Beach Police Department, faces 10 felony and two misdemeanor counts. Officer Brian O’Connell, who rejoined the department in 2024 after initially serving in 2021, is charged with two felony counts.

The charges stem from allegations of misconduct while working off-duty in an official capacity. According to police, an internal investigation led to evidence deemed criminal in nature, which was submitted to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and subsequently presented to the grand jury.
