CAMP NORTH END, CHARLOTTE (QC HOMETOWN) — The oldest parts of Charlotte’s Camp North End were first developed 100 years ago. For much of that time, what went on there was top secret.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that the barbed wire fence surrounding the property was torn down. Now, it’s all out in the open.

"It was the environment of loose lips sink ships. You know, you had to be quite discreet,” UNC-Charlotte history professor Mark Wilson said.

Once the subject of whispers, is now a canvas of color and creativity. But hiding in plain sight between the walkways, markets, and shops are the bones of something that refuses to go unseen any longer.
