October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time to shed light on the widespread and devastating impact of domestic violence. This annual observance encourages
communities to support survivors, educate the public, and advocate for prevention and justice.
Domestic violence affects over 12 million people annually in the United States — roughly 24 people per minute. It includes physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse, often occurring in silence and isolation. According to recent data, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Alarmingly, over 50% of female homicide victims are killed by current or former partners.
