The Madison County District Attorney's Office says it has concluded the investigation into a Deshler High School football player’s injuries, calling the incident a “freak accident” and confirming there will be no criminal charges filed.

The update in August Borden's case was given during a press conference Wednesday.

The DA's office said "typical high school banter" and "limited physical contact" were involved but there was no malice or evidence to support criminal charges.

August suffered a severe skull fracture and concussion at the school on Aug. 19, leading to his hospitalization. His parents previously disputed claims from school officials that the injuries resulted from a fall, noting that August cannot recall the incident due to the severity of his injuries.
