A major road in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, collapsed on Tuesday as rain soaked the region.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on Plantside Drive. It started as just a hole on one side of the road.

"I got a call from one of my employees ... It's got a little buckle on the asphalt. As soon as we showed up, the right lane collapsed over here," said Jimmy Franconia, director of public works for the city of Jeffersontown, a suburb of Louisville.

By the time sister station WLKY's helicopter got to the scene around 5 p.m., the entire road had collapsed.

Officials said the collapse was caused by flooding in the area.
