THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Training Centre is getting an expansion.
The six-storey structure at 750 Hammond Avenue will be enlarged by about 20 per cent to accommodate training apparatus and various functions.
"It will be another bay out the side for our response capacity related to our provincial responsibilities under our urban search and rescue and hazardous material teams," said Fire Chief Dave Paxton.
Design and construction costs are expected to approach $750,000, but the City of Thunder Bay has not awarded a contract for the work yet.
Training including live fire exercises is conducted at the facility for city firefighters and for firefighters from across Northwestern Ontario.
